Article Trip Generation Analysis for Internet Shoppers in Northern Taiwan Region
Author Jen-Jia Lin, Kai-Lin Li
Abstract

The purpose of this research is empirically analyzing internet shopping impacts on internet shopper's trip generation in Northern Taiwan Region. Five hundreds internet shoppers were used as sample and investigated by questionnaire survey. This study employed linear regression, and negative binomial regression, to examine travel kilometers, and personal trips, respectively. The empirical evidences present that internet shopping affects shopping trip generation, increases non-shopping trips and increases total travel kilometers. The above impacts are significantly different between urban and rural areas. Based on the empirical findings, this paper draws up recommendations on the strategies of urban development and e-commerce for reducing trip generation and travel distance.

Article The Cluster Map Change of Transportation Manufacturing Industry in Taiwan
Author Jen-Te Pai
Abstract

This research combined industry linkage analysis with hot spot analysis to generate a spatial concentration indicator. By utilizing the industry linkage analysis data of 1981, 1991 and 2001 from Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and statistics, Executive Yuan, to identify the industries are connected to the automobile manufacturing industries and ship manufacturing industries. Meanwhile, incorporate with the census data and spatial layer of each year, to analyze the change of spatial pattern, the level of spatial concentration, and linkage industries of automobile manufacturing industries and ship manufacturing industries. Related background of automobile and ship manufacturing industries is interrelated referred to find out the implication to spatial analysis result. Research results find that the linkage industries had no great change with time, in the other hand, the automobile manufacturing industries and its linkage industries are concentrated in northern area of Taiwan, the ship manufacturing industries and its linkage industries are concentrated in southern area of Taiwan. To apply of spatial concentration index can show the situation of centralized more than other indexes.

Author Wei Wang, Tai-Shan Hu, Jheng-Lin Ye
Abstract

Under the stimulus of international trade, network development and globalization in recent years, the development of the high-tech industries drives the raise of the knowledge-intensive business services (KIBS) activity. Knowledge spreading provided by KIBS, which is crucial for industry-wide innovative processes and with the result that inclines to be located in some places to reach the purpose of strengthening the superiority of competition by the knowledge interaction and the competition of commerce between each other. The paper focuses on the service-oriented phenomenon of technology-based industries in Hsin-chu Science-Based Industrial Park and around. First of all, the study observes the development of KIBS office, then analyzes the principal factor and the influence of development of KIBS changing by studying the characteristic of whole KIBS environment, and survey the community interaction between KIBS and high-tech by exploring the industrial cluster and the development of location. The methodology includes the location quotient and the index of concentration. The location quotient is the way to measure the degree of industrial specialization between regions, and the index of concentration is to observe the spatial distribution of industry. Therefore, the paper attempts to provide the consulting basis of KIBS development and office planning in development structure of high-tech area.

Article Critique for the Local 'Sustainability Fix' in Kao-Kao-Ping Urban-Regional Governance: A Viewpoint o
Author I-Chih Lan
Abstract

Facing the deterritoralizing challenge of globalization, it is the critical task for urban development that cities have to respond to and govern the increasingly intensive intercity competition. In order to improve the local advantage in the process of intercity competition and embed the mobile capital flows into a given area for development, on the one hand, municipality tries to deregulate the planning and regulation restriction to intensify the capacity for replying time-space compression; on the other, to emphasize the remaking of place image to be an attractive locality. For the latter, one of its main issues is to reconstruct locality through remaking the local sustainability; to create livable environment quality as the symbolic narrative of place marketing to combine the former strategies of spatial governance, which will form the governance of 'sustainability fix'. Despite highlighting the linkage between economy and environment, however, owing to the concept originated from the spatial competition under the geography of neoliberalism, it renders that, through the inter-manipulation between urban entreprenurialism and intercity competition, the process of urban governance pursuing sustainability fixity inevitably faces the implicit crisis of spatial and social polarization. When examining the crisis in a larger urban-region scale, cities should more deliberately perceive the misunderestimated crisis. In the paper, I try to take the KKP urban-region in southern Taiwan as a case study, to examine its governance context and LA 21 action project and to explore its defects.
